Navigating Skincare Authenticity: Understanding and Identifying Genuine Products

Posted in

PART 3

How can you tell if a product is fake or just inconsistent?

Trying to figure out whether a skincare product is counterfeit or simply varies due to manufacturing processes can be challenging.

Let’s explore how to be more discerning in such situations.

  1. Be Observant:

Start by being vigilant about significant differences. In some cases, the discrepancies are glaringly obvious right from the packaging. Look for misspellings, poor print quality, etc

  1. Caution with Third-Party Barcode Scanning Apps:

While they seem convenient, these apps have limitations and rely on limited data, leading to inaccurate results.

Some of you would remember the incident where skincare products from Sephora were wrongly identified as pillowcases in such apps. That’s a classic example.

Also, sophisticated counterfeits can replicate genuine barcodes, making these apps less reliable for verification.

  1. Brands and authorized resellers

Ideally, purchasing directly from brands or their authorized retailers is the safest route.

However, this becomes challenging when many of these brands and distributors are not based in Nigeria. Some are not even interested in the Nigerian market.

  1. Trusted retailers

This is where the role of trusted local retailers becomes crucial.

Reputable retailers conduct thorough due diligence in their sourcing processes to ensure the authenticity of their products.

In the end, it comes down to TRUST.

When purchasing skincare, assess the retailer’s reputation and track record for reliability.

Trusted retailers act as your safeguard against counterfeits, especially in markets like Nigeria, where direct purchases from brands are not always possible.

Remember, your concerns are important. Always feel free to reach out to your retailer with any questions or doubts you might have.

We are here not just to sell products, but to ensure your peace of mind and satisfaction.
