Navigating Skincare Authenticity: Understanding and Identifying Genuine Products

Posted in

Ever felt the sting of buying a skincare product, only to find out it’s a fake? Yeah, it’s super annoying and definitely not what you need, especially with how expensive skincare has become.

So, we have put together this little series to shed some light on the tricky world of skincare manufacturing and counterfeit products.

Think of this as our way of having your back. We want to make sure you have got all the info you need to make smart choices when buying and using your skincare products.

PART 1

Distinguishing Between Counterfeit and Genuine but Inconsistent Products

  1. Fake Products?

Fake products are those produced by unauthorized manufacturers. These are often inferior or substandard, created with the intention to deceive.

The key term here is “produced by unauthorized manufacturers.

  1. Genuine but Inconsistent Products?

On the other hand, products made by the original company or authorized manufacturers are legitimate.

However, they can sometimes show inconsistencies like variations in texture, smell, or user experience.

These are not signs of a fake product but are often due to factors in the manufacturing process, which we will explore in part 2 of our series.

  1. Here is a quick breakdown to help you distinguish

Counterfeit (fake) Products

  • Source: Produced by unauthorized manufacturers.
  • Intention: To deceive by imitating genuine products.
  • Quality and Safety: Often inferior, with unguaranteed safety standards.
  • Legal Status: Illegal and unethical.

Genuine but Inconsistent Products

  • Source: Produced by the original brand or authorized manufacturers.
  • Intention: Variations, though unintentional, may occur due to changes in manufacturing processes or ingredient sourcing.
  • Quality and Safety: Upholds safety and quality standards.
  • Legal Status: Legal and legitimate.
